19. Netherlands Borneo (PK5)Borneo is an island in Southeast-Asia. Its surface of about 744.108 km² made Borneo he third biggest island of the world. Only greenland and New-Guinea are bigger. The island is divided in two parts, the bifgest part belongs to Indonesia, the northern part (with exeption of Brunei) belongs to Malaysia.The Indonesian part of Borneo is called Klimantan. The Dutch got more and more influence in the nineteens and twentieest centure in the Indien archipel. Java went from a colony into an exploitation colony. Export of Coffe, sugar and tabacco filled Dutch wallets. The local rulers became angry which led to a revolt under leadership of Dionegro. The Java-war from 1825 to 1830 was won by the Dutch. The govenment of the Netherlands resulted into better life conditions in the colony of Netherlands India. This led also to a kind of local upperclass group of people who wanted to be independent. After Worldwar Two the Indonesians called themselves independent on August 17, 1945. Result was the independency war which did take many lives among the Dutch as well among the local people. Moluccas as wel as Chinese, wo supported the Netherlands becamse also victim of violance. The Dutch recognised the Independency of Indonesia on December 27, 1949. From this date, many Dutch and Moluccans flew to the Netherlands. The Northern part of Borneo is called Malaysian-Borneo and consist of Sabah and Serawak which are property of Malaysia and called East Malaysia.
