1963 Java goes back to Indonesia

17. Java (PK1-3) Java is an island in the republic of Indonesia. Java is big, 132 thousant km² and counts over 150 Million inhabitants. This makes Java the island with the most people living on a square mile in Indonesia.. The capital (until 2023) was Jakarta on the Northwest coast of Java. The capital counts more than 10 Million inhabitants. The island consists of vulcanic mountain areas and wide plateaus. There are 45 active vulcanoes, such as the Bromo, the Merapi and the Semnu. Alll the vulcanoes are on the list of the sixteen most dangerous vulcanous in the world. The Dutch got more and more influence in the nineteens and twentieest centure in the Indien archipel. Java went from a colony into an exploitation colony. Export of Coffe, sugar and tabacco filled Dutch wallets. The local rulers became angry which led to a revolt under leadership of Dionegro. The Java- war from 1825 to 1830 was won by the Dutch. The govenment of the Netherlands resulted into better life conditions in the colony. This led also to a kind of local upperclass group of people who wanted to be independent. After Worldwar Two the Indonesians called themselves independent on August 17, 1945. Result was the independency war which did take many lives among the Dutch as well among the local people. Moluccas as wel as Chines, wgo supported the Netherlands becamse also victim of violance. The Dutch recognisedthe Independency of Indonesia on December 27, 1949. From this date, many Dutch and Moluccans flew to the Netherlands. PK1VX 1939 Java The call PK1VX was used by the Dutch pilot Gerson van Mess (SK on January 24, 2000)). Gerson was ian empoyee of KLM who made regular flights in the thirties between Batavia (Jakarta) and Sydney. The plane was a Douglas DC2, which could carry 14 passengers. His Dutch call was PA0PVX, his nickname was “Fiets” (bike). “Fiets” made his last flight with a Douglas DC2 when he was 97 years old, just a few monthts before he died.
