62. Kingman Reef (KH5K) Kingman Reef is an oceanic reef in the Northern Pacific Ocean, part of the Polunesian region. The reef can be found some 1500 Kilometers South of Hawaii. The reef belongs to the United States, and is part of some other small iremote slands which also belong to the US. Geological is the reef an atoll and is part of the Line Islands. Other parts of the Line Islands are the territory of Jarvis and Palmyra atol. All other parts of the Line-Islands belong to Kiribati. The nearest property of the United States from Kingman-Jarvis and Palmyra are the Marshall Islands. Kingman has no permanent vegetaion the mainland consist only of two small islands, covered with dead shells and some broken coral. In the period after 1930 the reef was used as an emergency landing place of Pan American Clippers who offered flights between the US and New Zealand. KP6KR was in 1973 the first DXpedition call, used from this Entity. During the 29 Hiours and 43 Minutes that KP6KR was active, 5535 QSOs got logged on 7,14,21 and 28 Mc. The names of the operators are known, Bob Ferrero (K6AHV), “Rusty”Epps (W6OAT), Peter Grabosky (WB6OOL) and Jim Rafferty (WA9UCE). In 2016 Kingman Reef was placed under management of the US Fish and Wildlife Service. With DXCC rules in mind this ment that Kingman Reef was merged with Palmyra and Jarvis, because they had the same management. The entry on the Deleted list was dated March 29, 2016.
