1982 Kamaran Island belongs to Yemen

50. Kamaran Island (VS9K) Kamaran Island has a surface of about 108 km². The island is located in the Red Sea and belongs to Yemen. The city of Sayfaf lies on the North of the island. Before the Portuguese posted a settlement on the island in the 16th Century, the island was inhabited for centuries. In the 19th century Kamaran Island was occupied by the Ottoman Empire. In the last century, the island was occupied by the British until November 30, 1967. On that date Kamaran became part of the Democratic Peoples republic of Yemen (South Yemen) In 1972 Kamaran Island became part of the ajacent Yemen Arabic Republic (North Yemen). This lasted until 1990 when the island became a part of the united Yemen.
