A year later, in 1945 the Spaniards left the town, giving back Tngier its international state. In 1956 the population of the town got up to 150.000 inhabitants, three times more than in 1939. When Marocco became independent in 1956, Tangier became part of of Marocco. The special position of this colorfull town was over. the special position of Tangier was over, and became Tangier a part of Marocco. Tangier was no longer the city of many excentric miljonairs, secret service agents> Tangier was no longer the city of gamblers and adventurers, looking for fame.
