1958 A lot of new Entities

02-03 The Leeward and Windward Islands (VP2) The Lesser Antilles, the islands southeast of the Dominican Republic are divided in three groups, The Leeward Antilles, the Leeward Islands and the Windward Islands. During colonial times slaves from Afirca were transported to the islands to work on the sugarcane plantations and Indigo plantations. The descendants of these slaves are now the majority of the inhabitants of the archipel. Parts of the archipel are governed by several countries i.e. The United States, France, Brittain and The Netherlands. In the list below the islands without a prefix were already a DXCC Entitiy. The SSS-Islands did have two DXCC Entities. The french part of Sint Maarten was one Entity (with prefix FS), The Dutch part with the two other islands Saba and Sint Eustatius was the other Entity (prefix PJ7). This changed in 2010 when the Dutch SSS-group changed into two other Entities PJ7-Sint Maarten and Saba-Sint Eustatius (PJ5/PJ6). Saint-Barthélemy bacame a new Entity in 2007 twhen the island was added to the DXCC Countries List. Leeward Islands: Virging Islands AmericanVirgin Islands Britisch Virgin Islands - VP2V Spanish Virigin Islands,(belonging to Puerto Rico) Anguilla - VP2E SSS Islands Sint Maarten / Saint Martin Saba Sint Eustatius Saint-Barthélemy Antigua - VP2A ( now V2) Barbuda - VP2A (now V2) Saint Kitts - VP2K (now V4) Nevis - VP2K (now V4) Montserrat - VP2M Guadeloupe Dominica - VP2D (now J7) Windward Islands: Martinique Saint Lucia - VP2L (now J6) Barbados Saint Vincent - VP2S (now J8) Grenada - VP2G (now J3) Grenadines - VP2G (now J3) Trinidad en Tobago Results of the split of the Leeward and Windward Islands by the ARRL was that new Entities were added to the DXCC Countries List. The Island-groups disappeaerd form the List, and became “Withdrawn”. The new ones in the list above are those with a prefix behind the island-name. Below you can read how ARRL acted on this Withdrawn. Contacts made with stations in what was previously listed as Leewards and Windwards will be credited on the following basis. If credit has already been given for a station in the Leewards, further credit cannot be given for that particular island. For example, if Leewards credit was obtained with VP2MY in Montserrat, no further credit can be claimed for Montserrat. A credit given for VP2LU on St. Lucia toward Windwards will count as St. Lucia and no further credit can be claimed for St. Lucia. On the other hand, a contact with VP2KM made on June 1, 1958, or after, can be claimed as credit for St. Kitts or a contact with VP2GC made on June 1, 1958, or after, can be claimed as credit for Grenada It has to be clear that ARRL had made a lot of DXCC credit checking for Leeward and Windward credits. No one did loose a DXCC credit, only the “Country” of the credit changed.
